전시소개
사적인 환영
안민정은 컴퓨터로 그린 도면 같은 그림을 그린다. 컴퓨터 일러스트레이션 프로그램으로 이미지를 입력하고 트레이싱 페이퍼로 프린터에서 출력을 한다. 얼핏 보면 도면 같고 차트 같다. 그래픽 같은 이미지 사이에 각종 수식과 깨알 같은 지시 사항이 있어서 프로그램 매뉴얼처럼 보이기도 한다. 그러나 호흡을 늦추고 차분히 바라보면 과학과 기술적 이미지처럼 보이는 것들이 전부 작가의 내밀한 경험과 흔한 일상에 대한 것들이다. 작가의 경험, 기억, 감정, 꿈, 심지어 자신의 정체성까지 다이어그램이나 그래프, 설계 도면처럼 펼쳐져 있다.

내가 보는 내 얼굴, 어머니의 사랑, 내가 날마다 관찰한 선인장 화분, 잠이 아직 덜 깨서 꿈인지, 생시인지 몽롱한 상태 등 누구에게도 명확하게 말하기 힘든, 나에게는 매우 분명하지만 다른 사람에게는 지극히 모호한 스스로의 주관적인 세계에서 일어난 경험을 절대적인 확실성과 객관성으로 안민정은 보여주려고 애쓰고 있다. 이미 종교가 되어 버린 과학과 우상이 되어버린 컴퓨터를 빌려서 가장 비과학적이고 아날로그적으로 작가 자신과 그 주변을 보여주면서 객관성을 조롱하고 확실성을 가지고 장난치고 있는 것이다.

전통적인 회화는 작가가 눈앞에 보이는 구체적 대상을 이미지로 가상화시켜서 캔버스나 종이 위에 재현 시키는 것이다. 그러나 안민정의 회화는 컴퓨터 저장 공간 안에서 구체적으로 구성된 실체가 프린터를 통해서 재현되는 것이다. 이미지가 재현되는 방식이 반대적이다. 재현 과정의 차이가 불러일으키는 새로움은 현대 미술의 짧은 역사에서 그다지 새롭지는 않다. 다만 컴퓨터와 일러스트레이션이라는 프로그램을 미디엄으로 사용해서 회화적 이미지를 디지털적으로 만들어 내는 '미술적 방식'은 아직도 실험적이고 신선하다. 그래서 어떤 의미로는 아직도 경과적이다.

작가소개
안민정은 강원도에서 출생해서 경기도 북부에서 성장하면서 서울에서 학교를 다녔다. 국립서울과학기술 대학교에서 조형예술로 학부와 대학원을 마쳤다. 그 동안 두 번의 개인전과 다수의 단체전에 참여하였다. 웹사이트에 있는 그녀의 홈페이지를 보고 영국, 미국, 싱가포르, 홍콩, 독일 등 외국 큐레이터들이 전시에 초청하였다. 2014-2015년 청주 아티스트 레지던시에서 작업하고 있다.

Private Welcome
Ahn Minjeong creates images that resemble blueprints drawn on a computer. She inputs images into computer illustration programs and prints them out onto tracing paper. At first glance, her works look like schematics or charts. The combination of graphic-style images with various mathematical formulas and tiny annotations makes them resemble program manuals. However, when viewed calmly and at a slower pace, it becomes clear that these seemingly scientific and technical visuals are rooted entirely in the artist’s personal experiences and everyday life. Her memories, emotions, dreams, and even her identity are laid out like diagrams, graphs, or architectural plans.
She attempts to express with absolute clarity and objectivity the kinds of experiences that are deeply personal and often difficult to articulate—like the face she sees in the mirror, the love of her mother, a cactus she observes daily, or the hazy moments between sleep and wakefulness. While these experiences are vivid and specific to her, they remain ambiguous to others. Ahn uses the authority of science—which has become a new form of religion—and the status of computers as modern idols to depict her analog, unscientific world. In doing so, she playfully critiques the notions of objectivity and certainty.
Traditional painting involves an artist representing what they see in the real world by recreating it on canvas or paper. In contrast, Ahn Minjeong’s works are created as digital entities within the storage space of a computer and then reproduced through a printer. The method of reproduction is essentially reversed. While the difference in reproduction methods is no longer particularly novel in the brief history of contemporary art, her use of computer illustration software as a medium for creating painterly images remains both experimental and refreshing. In that sense, her approach continues to exist in a transitional phase.


Artist Bio
Ahn Minjeong was born in Gangwon Province and raised in northern Gyeonggi Province. She studied in Seoul, completing both undergraduate and graduate programs in Fine Arts at Seoul National University of Science and Technology. She has held two solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows. International curators from the UK, USA, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Germany have invited her to exhibit after discovering her website. From 2014 to 2015, she was an artist-in-residence at the Cheongju Art Studio.
